Elk hunters who apply for and end up drawing unit 22 north elk tags will have much more competition for the elk but, elk numbers are much higher in the north end of unit 22 and are easier for hunters to find. Hunting the wilderness areas in Unit 22 will eliminate most of the hunter pressure for the unit 22 bull elk hunts and provide you with much higher quality Arizona elk hunts. Elk hunters who would like to hunt this country in Unit 22 need to be very prepared to hunt the wilderness and also need to be very experienced in packing elk out of very remote and very difficult rugged terrain. The wilderness elk terrain here is as remote and rugged as can be found in Arizona making horses and mules a necessity for both getting yourself in and out of the elk country as well as packing your elk out of the wilderness.
